The students of CEPOC Central School together with the school's faculty have something new to be excited about. It comes in the form of an additional structure, a building. It is no ordinary building as this classroom will double as a venue for IT learning and provide a suitable environment for study and reading.
"CEPOC Central School will now have headway in hands-on training" and will be the beneficiaries of "a dynamic form of learning information technology," said CEMEX Philippines Foundation President Jaime Ruiz de Haro. Students are now able to transition their learning from theory-based lectures to practical knowledge gained through sit down work in front of real computers.
In addition to this, children also have a new haven where they can improve their reading skills. Having participated in a reading workshop, CEPOC teachers shall soon be implementing a month-long intensive reading program for Grade 4 students. By providing colorfully designed books and a venue where children can enjoy these, childrens' minds will be stimulated to think deeper and dream bigger.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was on hand to take part in the inauguration. "Today is a day of blessing," she said," and we are thankful to CEMEX Philippines for their acute sense of corporate social responsibility." Seeing the children as the hope of the Philippines, she was grateful that CEMEX was standing a gallant knight rescuing the youth from the "poverty of the mind."
"We are very fortunate to have a very dedicated and supportive stakeholder," asserted Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong. "In cooperation with CEMEX, we have prepared our students to become more competitive," he added.
CEPOC Principal Concepcion Garcia and Department of Education Divisions Superintendent Recaredo Borgonia were also present to "receive" the building. They were both profuse in their thanks and committed to making full use of the donated facilities for the betterment of young minds.
