Foundation Day: A Milestone Event

"There is so much human potential in education, just waiting to be given that push to start getting things to take off and fly high".

Thus, says Jaime Ruiz de Haro during the "Foundation Day" of the CEMEX Philippines Foundation, where people from all sectors gathered to seal partnerships and stand witness to the commitment of implementing projects that will benefit over 10,000 public school students.

Held at The Peninsula Manila on May 24, the event was highlighted by the Memorandum of Agreement Signing with the Ayala Foundation Inc. (AFI), Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development (FitED), Sa Aklat Sisikat Foundation, Inc. (SAS) and the Manuel Roxas High Schools.

These partnerships will bring to elementary and high school students computerization and information technology training, intensive reading program and infrastructure projects, to equip students and provide them with better learning opportunities.

Grateful for the commitment of partner-organizations sealed through a Memorandum of Agreement Signing Ceremony, CEMEX Philippines Foundation President Jaime Ruiz de Haro said, "together with Gilas and FitEd, SAS and the Roxas High Schools, we aim to provide students with the best weapon against poverty, train and equip them with the most innovative and technologically advanced means and tools, and fulfill their needs by providing adequate facilities where they can conduct school activities more easily and effectively".

Ruiz de Haro stressed CEMEX's long term commitment to social responsibility and mentioned the 2006 World Business Award that our company received this month for our program Patrimonio Hoy, intended to help the building needs of low income families. Ruiz de Haro mentioned the recent launching of the same program in the Philippines in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, under the name "Ka Partner sa Pangarap".
